My Story: Raised in a staunch Republican family (Mom a big Alexander fan, sis and father Reaganites), I too thought they were the moral choice...that is, until the age of reason: when I had to find ways to pay for college, support myself on minimum wage, pay for health insurance, etc. The real turning point for me has been in trying to find out how Republicans can defend their "moral" superiority when you look closely at their records and see little concern at all for social justice and a blatant disregard for the Constitution. How they have the audacity to carefully place red, white and blue ribbons on their SUVs and call themselves "patriotic" when they openly support silencing our freedoms, destroying our environment, trying to get out of paying taxes which built so many things in this country like infrastructure (which they gladly use), and making us less safe here and abroad by alienating other countries through unilateral invasion. Democrats at times have been almost as bad--the DLC was simply a machine to create the Clintons, who failed at universal health and created NAFTA which cost friends their jobs, not to mention wimping out in Rwanda when a million defenseless people were being hacked to death with machetes over a period of 100 days. I guess they were just too busy watching that white Ford Bronco race down the highway like the rest of us couch potatoes did that year. The one good thing that came out of that time was Al Gore, who though he didn't turn out to be the most successful politician, he will nonetheless go down in history as a true statesman. I began my voting history as an Independent and changed it to Democrat for one man--Howard Dean--whom I had hoped would get the nom and be able to help our country as well as the Party. I still have a little hope left over and would like to see someone with credentials and vision like Richardson get the opportunity to stimulate real change in policy. Think about it--it's pretty sad when the only people who are talking about social justice are COMEDIANS...

Democrats Vs. Republicans We have all made mistakes. But Dante tells us that divine justice weighs the sins of the cold-blooded and the sins of the warm-hearted on different scales. Better the occasional faults of a party living in the spirit of charity than the consistent omissions of a party frozen in the ice of its own indifference. --FDR at the DNC, 1936
