I guess if you take a bell curve and determine just who these 30% are they would have to be on the left hand side of that IQ curve. I know these idiots are out there but I just have not come across them. Just where do the pollsters find them? I recommend an article in Foreign Policy Magazine by Alasdair Roberts: "The War We Deserve"
"It's easy to blame the violence in Iraq and the pitfalls of the war on terror on a small cabal of neocons, a bumbling president, and an overstretched military. But real fault lies with the American people as well. Americans now ask more of their government but sacrifice less than ever before. It's an unrealistic, even deadly, way to fight a global war. And, unfortunately, that's just how the American people want it."

This is a tough country to govern and even a tougher one to lead given the intellect and low level of education out there. Our failure to properly educate our people gives us people with a very high degree of ignorance about almost every issue you can think of.   Read More »
Teachers should be evaluated based on their efforts to improve professionally
Don't link pay raises to standardized test scores of students - do it the way medical professionals do
continuing education requirements
increasing levels of certification
but include a category for sharing expertise with fellow teachers
That way teachers that have the time/inclination to improve can be rewarded and the straight jacket of standardized testing comes off our students
They are not as dumb as we were in high school [just look at the homework they have to do and all the homework we DIDN'T do!]. It will get them in the groove to vote, it will show them how and it will get them talking about the issues. And if you think they will just vote like their parents...well, you don't know teens very well do you? Bill, I think you can get behind this issue. It would set you apart from the mob. Just do it!

Kudos to WMUR for posting their newscasts on You Tube. Check out coverage of the Governor's Education Plan roll out from New Hampshire:

Welcome Republicans, Democrats and Independents! I invite you to join in a dialogue about your efforts to get Governor Bill Richardson's message of "change and experience" out to other Americans. Please feel free to share your thoughts, questions, and efforts and join me in making a difference, one voice at a time.

Hosting a blog is new for me . . . I look forward to contributing my energy to getting Governor Bill Richardson elected as our next President of the United States. For the record, I am a moderate Republican that believes we need experience, in addition to articulate rhetoric, to pull our democracy together for all . . . Bill Richardson has my vote!

I look forward to welcoming you . . . let's work together for success in 2008!   Read More »
Congressman, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Secretary of Energy and in his second term as Governor of New Mexico after a landslide victory in November 2006, Governor Bill Richardson is running for President to heal America and restore our place in the world. He possesses the experience, vision and leadership skills to be a great President.

Richardson is goal-oriented, assertive and confident. He has the ability to quickly evaluate a situation but is not rigid in his thinking and will modify policy when necessary. He takes a practical approach to governing, focusing on solutions to problems rather than ideology.   Read More »

First, it was the ABC debate, where focus groups called Governor Richardson the winner; then the Prez on the Rez Forum where he once again clearly defined his positions to the delight of the First Americans in attendance; Sunday he took on Univision and outshined all of the other candidates in a clear, convincing, and passionate explanation of his resume, record, and positions to Latino voters nationwide.  And now, the online Mash Up, where once again Governor Richardson challenged the other candidates to come clean and tell the truth about how many soldiers they would leave at risk in Iraq.

Not content in demanding an answer to that important question, Governor Richardson laid out a realistic, workable plan for Iraq that restores that battle scarred country, promotes stability in the region, and protects American lives.  Moving past Iraq, he succinctly but completely explained what he would do about education, health care, and immigration.  While the other candidates spoke in platitudes and generalities, Governor Richardson defined the issues of this race.  Rather than do him injustice by quoting parts of the Mash Up, here is the transcript of the event.  Read it for yourself and once again understand why Bill Richardson is the best candidate to lead this country as its President:

No Child Left Behind is another example of the truth of the saying that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Liberal Democrats joined with Bush in trying to revamp education in America. What they overlooked was that parents want themselves and teachers to have control of their children's education - not the Secretary of Education in Washington, D.C.

Through no fault of their own, many children from low income households or whose parents do not speak English show up on the first day of Kindergarten with significant academic disadvantages. Addressing the needs of these students on an individual basis while providing instruction that is rigorous and relevant for all students constitutes the core challenge of most urban school districts in America. NCLB does not recognize this basic fact. Instead, it imposes sanctions those schools in need of the greatest assistance.

Governor Richardson has seen the impact of NCLB in New Mexico and is the only major candidate calling for its repeal. You can read his Op Ed today at http://blogs.usatoday.com/oped/2007/09/opposing-view-1.html
Earlier in June, I posted a message on MyDD on why Gov. Richardson deserves our support. Link In reply, a blogger from New Mexico posted the following message that I wanted to share with you (and encourage you to forward to others).

"Bill Richardson has a knack for giving diverse groups what they want most without terminally alienating people who don't want that, whatever "that" happens to be. He gave the pugs an upper tax bracket rate cut right out of the box in 2003, which pissed off a lot of liberal Democrats like me. However, there were a few things I didn't know at the time which the Governor certainly did."   Read More »

War is Just a Racket: Take a Stand; Dismantle the War Machine; Demilitarize the World!

Petition summary:

In the words of a USMC General, war is the oldest, the most profitable and the most vicious racket--one in which the profits are measured in dollars and the losses in body bags.

To stop the war racketeers profiting from wars and to void their 'license to mass murder,' we the undersigned call on you, the world community, parents, writers, poets, artists, farmers, workers, academics, professionals and all other concerned individuals to rise up and take a stand against the insanity of militarism forced on your community.

Remember: Without your consent, explicit or implied, the wheels of the military machine would come to a grinding halt.
