Our Reno staff passed along this report on some great events in Northern Nevada:
As Gov. Richardson took the stage in Las Vegas during the debate, Northern Nevada threw him three great birthday parties.
In Reno, Drs. Lynn and Paul Brosy opened their home to a group of about 15 democrats. “ We live in a very republican neighborhood, so this chance to connect with other Democrats was great,” Lynn said. Down in Carson City, Janet and Merle Riggs led their crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” complete with cake and ice cream. Douglas County Democrats enjoyed food and conversation at Marie Louise Lekumberry’s home.
Both Richardson supporters and undecided voters watched the debate and discussed the different strengths of the candidates. Everyone agreed that Richardson gave a tremendously strong performance and appreciated his concern for renewable energy and his plan for an immediatewithdrawal from Iraq. “It’s time to get the troops home,” Brosy said.
Carson City’s attendees were impressed with Richardson’s experience in foreign policy and diplomacy. “We need a president who prioritizes peace. Gov. Richardson has now been nominated five times for the Nobel Peace Prize. That’s impressive,” Carson City resident Rex Harold said.
In Douglas County, hosts Marie Louise and Evan Beavers were excited with the turnout and energy of the crowd. Marie was even successful in recruiting a couple of canvassers. “Volunteering on the campaign is easy and a lot of fun as well,”Marie told party guests.
Though a tad jealous that Las Vegas received all the notice, house party guests were excited for the national attention on Nevada. The three parties were a fun and informative chance to support the best candidate and only Westerner in the race, Bill Richardson.
