I modified my original letter to NPR  to make it general enough for any newspaper and used this resource to distribute it widely.

I will not re-post since it is essentially the same, though i did add one significant paragraph.  I made areference to the fact that Governor Richardson is leading the polls in New Mexico, and pointed out that this was most likely because his name recognition in NM is on a par with the other candidates.  (polls found at http://www.usaelectionpolls.com/2008/new-mexico.html
