Richardson's passion shines at the Iowa State Fair

The Des Moines Register reported that the Governor's passion showed through at the Iowa State Fair yesterday and Jeff Jones of the Albuquerque Journal, reported:

Gov. Bill Richardson was only a few minutes into his stint as celebrity chef at the Iowa State Fair on Tuesday when a visit from Iowa Gov. Chet Culver prompted him to turn away from his duties flipping pork burgers.Hey! The meat's burning, guys!" one of the regular cooks hollered as Richardson talked.

So, the New Mexico governor got back to the business of campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination in the summer of 2007, manning one of the giant grills in front of the Iowa Pork Producers Building.

Check out this video from the Governor's day at the Iowa State Fair:

Nice Video

It's great to see Gov. Richardson in those settings. Now THAT'S the candidate I want to vote for!

He's relaxed, passionate, and down-to-earth.

I agree, thanks for posting. I look forward to more such clips.

Change, experience and victory in November '08 - Richardson offers all three advantages.

passion with a plan

Watching the clip, reminds me of why I support Mr Richardson. He IS a personable, regular guy and on the good days, comes across with passion because he sincerely desires change and knows that it can be accomplished. And we all repeatedly state that he is the most experienced, most qualified candidate.

So how can we get him ELECTED? As the Governor states, the race shouldn't be about celebrity or raising the most money. But unfortunately, our society in general these days is that way and we must work within those parameters (especially to get the media to pay attention).

As I have stated in other postings, the campaign needs a breakthrough on the national level, and I would hope sooner, rather than later. Mr Richardson again stated in this clip that he "enjoys shaking hands, doing the grassroots work". But I fear by January, it will be too late, even with strong 10-15% showings in Iowa and New Hampshire should that happen.

I've often thought that by directly reaching out to the Democratic base and asking them to consider a very well qualified alternate candidate to the front runners might be a good idea. As a lifelong Democrat, I really don't see another candidate other than Richardson that I could support strongly (although I like Dodd, Biden, Edwards, and yes, even Kucinich). An inexperienced Obama is not for me, Edwards unfortunately is old news, and Clinton, although intelligent is polarizing and not really experienced either. Not being excited about your party's nominee is not the way that I want to go into the 2008 election. Maybe there are others out there like me and they just need to know the Governor.

The job interview ads are excellent. If money is available why not try them on a larger, more national scale, maybe before the next debate or similar event. If the campaign can create a buzz about his qualifications and then have the Governor prepare and yes, even practice, before appearing in front of the next national audience, maybe we could jump start the campaign over again.

And no more MISTAKES! The LGBT voting block was a natural for the Governor. And clarification or support letters or 'trick questions' don't really matter once the mistake has been made. In video of his answer on choice, the confusion and stammering was painful for us supporters to watch. A fair percentage of his answers in other debates were weak also, for someone that knows what he is talking about. Please rest and prepare.

Yes, the race shouldn't be about celebrity but all voters want an articulate and inspiring speaker as President. A very large part of an American Presidency is creating a vision and then articulating it clearly and yes,PASSIONATELY to the citizens to make them care and act.

Maybe the campaign should narrow its focus for awhile, to a few issues that might be more important or resonant better. And be willing to play the GAME a bit more, do a focus group about what people like and dislike about the Governor, do Q and A practice debates with tough criticism on performance, and look at a larger, more national strategy. You know that the Obama and Clinton campaigns have a big picture figured out.

In ending, I would like to say that being President is not the hardest job, it's running for President. And anyone one who takes it on for the good of the country (as Mr Richardson is) should be commended and thanked. It's easy to criticize, like I have, but please take it in the constructive manner that it is offered. And the Governor's campaign staff should also ask the hard questions of themselves NOW...while we still have the chance to elect him.

I agree. The key is to take that relaxed, personable quality and make it shine through on a national level.

If he does that...and cuts back on the verbal slips...he'll be tough to beat.

I have no doubt that he will out work everybody! (Just make sure he sleeps too...)

There is no other choice for me!!!

I just can't figure out why more people do not see that he is the best choice for President. I'm just sad that I have not had the opportunity to meet him in person yet!
