At last, a real choice

I have participated in US Presidential elections from the age of 8 when I had a candidate's bumper sticker attached to my brief case in 1964. I won't divulge which candidate that was, however, let us just say that this is not the first time I have supported a Presidential candidate from the warm states between California and Texas.
Since then, the only presidential candidate which I have supported that actually won was Bill Clinton and, with all due respect to President Clinton, I think that this country has had quite enough of Presidents coming from one family or another in rapid succession for awhile. Likewise, although other Democratic candidates are most worthy in their indivual aspects they all, IMHO, are part of the "system" and so tied into it that they have lost perspective of what we, the people of this country, desparately seek - the values of LOYALTY, HONOUR AND SERVICE. Loyalty to the principals of freedom, individuality and respect of others upon which this country was conceived - Honour in all dealings and activities from keeping commitments to US citizens to being a positive and constructive member of the World community and not an "800 pound gorilla" on a rampage - Service to each other and to all mankind both in terms of taking care of all humans, mammals and animals but in service to the entire environment, not through clever slogans or causes but by individual and responsible actions which protect and enhance our environment in all that we do.
I've seen the world change from the rigidity of the late 50's and early 60's to the "free love" of the late 60's to the confusion of the 70's, the self-indulgence of the 80's and the avarice of the 90's only to see the new century dawn with the same problems and bigotry of the past, at least in terms of racial issues. However, I have also been privileged to witness and be a part of the transformation of attitudes towards the GLBT community as citizens realize that we, in fact, are just as "normal" and as "unique" as they are. I have seen young folks exhibit respectful attitudes and make positive contributions to society while, at the same time, watching in horror and disgust as my peers ride around in monstrous vehicles with cell phones in hand and pay $5 a cup for coffee of all things.
Nonetheless, I see, in the candidacy of Governor Richardson, an opportunity to make this country better than ever before, a chance to heal the destruction of the current administration and a chance for real leadership to come back to DC.
It will be an interesting ride and, with any luck, we shall see President Richardson in the White House in the very near future!
