Crisscrossing the state on a whirlwind campaign swing, Gov. Richardson won over crowds from the Grand Strand to the smallest county in the state.

Wednesday started at the 2nd Street fishing Pier in sunny Myrtle Beach, where the Governor was greeted by the Myrtle Beach High School marching band and a large crowd of excited Democrats. The next stop was Horne's Motor Lodge in Florence, where a group of Pee Dee Democrats gathered to meet with Gov. Richardson and enjoy the famous buffet. From there, Richardson made the trip to McCormick County, the smallest county in South Carolina. This visit was truly historic, as it was the first time a presidential candidate had ever visited the County and he made the most of it by attending not just one - but two events. The first was the South Carolina AFL-CIO state convention. There, he met with union members and discussed the issues that matter most to working families. The second event was hosted by the McCormick County Democratic Party. After a rousing rendition of the National Anthem by the local high school band, Governor Richardson spoke to the group and shook many a hand. The final event of the trip was held in Aiken, a place that former Sec. of Energy Richardson knows well. In his remarks to nearly 200 supporters, Richardson laid out his agenda for the 1st six days of his presidency.

His swing through South Carolina ended with a standing ovation.

Gov. Bill Richardson's campaign swing through the Lowcountry last weekend was a huge success! After landing in Charleston Sunday morning, Richardson spoke at the Mount Mariah Baptist Church in North Charleston to over 500 church members. Afterwards he went to Robert Burton's home in Mount Pleasant where nearly 100 East Cooper Democrats were waiting for him. Later in the day, he went to Bowen's Island near Folly Beach where over 250 enthusiastic Democrats were on hand along with the terrific live music by Andy "Smokey" Weiner and Friends. The next morning Richardson met with leaders of the Lowcountry Hispanic Community at Santi's Restaurant on Meeting Street Road. Later in the day was the CNN - You Tube Debate at The Citadel, where Richardson was met by dozens of South Carolina volunteers proudly waiving Richardson for President Signs outside McAlister Field House.

Barbara Richardson was also in Charleston and spoke at a luncheon on Monday.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this visit such a success. We've got a great group of supporters in South Carolina and our numbers are growing everyday.
Don't miss this chance to personally speak with Bill Richardson about the issues most important to you. He will be attending a meet and greet with East Cooper Democrats at 1:00 on Sunday, July 22. This event will be held at 785 Post Oak Dr. in Mt. Pleasant. Later that day, Gov. Richardson will attend a get together at the famous Bowens Island Restaurant. All are invited to enjoy the live music, beautiful surroundings, and the company of Lowcountry Democrats. The festivities begin at 4:00PM. Last week's visit to South Carolina by Gov. Bill Richardson exceeded all expectations. The Governor arrived Friday morning in Columbia where he met with members of the local media. That evening, he attended a very successful fundraiser with excited supporters. On Saturday, Gov. Richardson had breakfast in Rock Hill with a large group of York County Democrats. He and his former House colleague, Rep. John Spratt spoke to a very attentive audience and fielded a few questions. From there, the two made the short trip to the Catawba Indian Reservation, and discussed the issues facing Native Americans with the tribe elders. Next stop was the famous Beacon Restaurant in Spartanburg, where the Governor sampled some onion rings and spoke with a large group of supporters. After that, he was off to meet with members of the Greenville County Democratic Party, and a group of Hispanic community leaders. A stop at the Anderson County Democratic Party BBQ concluded a very busy and successful day of campaigning. The excitement about Gov. Richardson's candidacy was obvious throughout the day; from event to event the level of enthusiasm was incredible. If you missed the Governor this time, don't worry, he'll be back soon. He will be attending the Democratic Debate on July 23, in Charleston. Check back for more info about upcoming events.
