Wednesday started at the 2nd Street fishing Pier in sunny Myrtle Beach, where the Governor was greeted by the Myrtle Beach High School marching band and a large crowd of excited Democrats. The next stop was Horne's Motor Lodge in Florence, where a group of Pee Dee Democrats gathered to meet with Gov. Richardson and enjoy the famous buffet. From there, Richardson made the trip to McCormick County, the smallest county in South Carolina. This visit was truly historic, as it was the first time a presidential candidate had ever visited the County and he made the most of it by attending not just one - but two events. The first was the South Carolina AFL-CIO state convention. There, he met with union members and discussed the issues that matter most to working families. The second event was hosted by the McCormick County Democratic Party. After a rousing rendition of the National Anthem by the local high school band, Governor Richardson spoke to the group and shook many a hand. The final event of the trip was held in Aiken, a place that former Sec. of Energy Richardson knows well. In his remarks to nearly 200 supporters, Richardson laid out his agenda for the 1st six days of his presidency.
His swing through South Carolina ended with a standing ovation.

Lynn Sweet, writing in the Chicago Sun-Times, says that Richardson, among others, upstaged the top-tier.
The 90-minute nationally televised debate on the campus of South Carolina State University -- the first of the 2008 season -- was dominated by criticism of President Bush and the Iraq war in a session smartly moderated by NBC anchor Brian Williams.
On the level playing field of the debate stage, the frontrunners -- Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, with former Sen. John Edwards behind them -- did not come out of the debate looking or sounding obviously more "presidential" than their second-tier rivals.
In that sense, they were upstaged by Biden, Richardson and Dodd, who showcased their years of experience.
Troy Haley writes in the Seacoast, NH "Seacoast Online"
New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary is more important than ever, given the front-loaded primary season and the candidates with large war chests of money and media entourages. Mr. Stephenson's letter published April 17 demonstrates that as New Hampshire voters look past the hype to the candidates' qualifications, one stands out - New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson.
We need an experienced, pragmatic leader who can find workable solutions to problems, resolve our international crises and repair our relationship with the world, and protect America's interests through energy security.
Bill Richardson is a proven problem-solver as a former congressman from New Mexico and U.S. energy secretary. He continues to serve as an effective international negotiator, having tackled international disputes with North Korea, Sudan, Iraq, and the Taliban in Afghanistan. As a congressman, U.S. energy secretary and governor, he has built coalitions and reached agreements across political party lines to get things done on energy supply, environmental protection, economic development and other issues that have genuine impacts on people's lives.

3. Bill Richardson has a better organization here than people think, and superstardom and money aside, he's probably the best fit for Democrats here.
The reviews are in following the first Democratic Presidential debate last night in Orangeburg, South Carolina. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson showed why his extensive diplomatic and foreign policy experience and accomplishments as a Congressman, US Ambassador to the United Nations, Energy Secretary, and two-term Governor make him the best qualified candidate for President.
“The State” newspaper in South Carolina said Governor Richardson was one of two candidates who “stood out with clearly stated positions and deft handling of a few tough questions”. That was just one of the many reports today praising the Governor’s performance in the debate and his impeccable and unequaled experience and credentials.
HEALTHCARE“In our health care plan, my new health care plan, no new bureaucracy. Every American shares, along with businesses, the state and the federal government. I would focus on prevention. I would also ensure that the first thing we do is deal with bureaucracy and inefficiencies in our health care system. Thirty-one percent of our health care goes to inefficiencies in bureaucracy. If we had a health information system where doctors and nurses could share information about health care, we would save billions of dollars. I would also make sure that we would reestablish the doctor-patient relationship, eliminate those in the middle like HMOs and others.
But my plan, I believe, would focus on prevention. We need to focus more on deterring these diseases like diabetes that is 30 percent of our Medicare cost.”
And the Governor believes we can institute Universal Healthcare without raising taxes.
FOREIGN POLICY“My precepts in foreign policy are this. I think this president characterizes this. Being stubborn isn't a foreign policy, and power without diplomacy is blind. I would focus my presidency on dealing with the real threats to America -- international terrorism, nuclear proliferation. I've dealt directly with North Korea…
I would deal with issues like Darfur. Why is it that America does not care about Africa, about genocide, about issues relating to enormous amount of deaths that are brought forth by international poverty?”
MSNBC has a pretty extensive poll up on their website. Go Vote Now, and remember only one candidate distinguished themselves on Iraq, foreign policy and diplomacy, and experience.
