In last week's HRC debate, Governor Richardson got it absolutely right. The issue isn't whether homosexuality is a choice or a genetic trait. The issue is that everyone in this country deserves equal and fair treatment in the law. Quite simply, there is no Constitutional basis for denying gays, lesbian, bisexuals and transgendered persons rights that heterosexual Americans take for granted, no matter how strongly that heterosexual person feels their interpretation of THEIR religion is correct. It was a slow day in my campaign today. I had expected to be tabling at Riponfest, but thanks to my incident with the Riponfest organizers (see blog entry from yesterday), I didn't have a lot to do. Fortunately, I had made some calls to some of the other volunteers in Wisconsin on Friday, and one of the volunteers returned my call. We chatted for forty-seven minutes and 56 seconds. In yesterday's post, I expressed hope for Democracy. Today, I realize it is going to take a lot more time and work than I realized. I held my first public event today, during the event, a voter contact, I had a lot of time to think. I came to realize many things, some old, some new, but I also decided to start keeping a journal of my campaign to connect the Voters of Wisconsin to Bill. I've let too much of my life slip away without record of any kind (I was never a picture snapper, either), and now, at 43, I find myself with plenty of experience, but a very spotty recollection of my past Some may wonder what that has to do with the campaign, but the reality is, without that record, my past life seems, well, rather unimportant. I know what I'm doing now, doing my best to help elect Governor Bill Richardson as the next President of the United States IS important. I don't want that to slip away, like so much else has.
