Bob Dannenfelser's Blog
Registered Republicans that believe in the Richarson agenda! We want to see it stay focused on National Security, Energy and Health Care because these are the three keys to our nations survivability that are totally entertwined.
This is my first post in my first ever blog! It should be interesting!
Just a bit about me: I am a 55 yer old electrical engineer, MBA in Technology Management. I am very familiar with all the various alternative and "green" energy platforms. Governor Richardson's goals are not wild and exagerated, in fact, technology exists now, or is on the cusp of marketplace viability, that could see a complete switch in our energy utilization by 2020 at the latest, not just its start.
Our foreign policy has revolved around our dependence on foreign oil for all of my adult life, and will until we become energy self-sufficient again. Only then will our governments actions represent the noble principles on which our own nation was founded. That's National Security, not protecting foreign waterways access to oil platforms!
Finally, the pollution of the Chesapeake Bay (I live in Maryland) has become a great local issue, and air and water pollution as a whole has become a cancer on our national health. I absolutely believe people have a responsibility to take care of themselves by not smoking, by eating properly and exercising minimally. I also believe if the people accept such responsibility, the government has an obligation to provide the means for them to succeed, and that means some form of health care, even if it is limited to wellness care rather than complete catastrophic protection. A partnership with the health insurers in America today can and must be created, and so spelled out, the costs can be managed. If you doubt this, consider the cost to American business from lost time due to absenteism from common illness like the flu, arthritis, etc. If all Americans improve their basic health with the aid of basic health care, those costs go down and worker efficiency goes up. That's a worthwhile tradeoff.
